Topological lattice models with constant Berry curvature

چکیده

Band geometry plays a substantial role in topological lattice models. The Berry curvature, which resembles the effect of magnetic field reciprocal space, usually fluctuates throughout Brillouin zone. Motivated by analogy with Landau levels, constant curvature has been suggested as an ideal condition for realizing fractional Chern insulators. Here we show that while cannot be made two-band model, models three or more degrees freedom per unit cell can support exactly curvature. However, contrary to intuitive expectation, find making does not always improve properties insulator states. In fact, ``ideal flatband'' have equivalently, density algebra levels realised any tight-binding system.

Photovoltaic Berry curvature in the honeycomb lattice

Photovoltaic Hall effect — the Hall effect induced by intense, circularly-polarized light in the absence of static magnetic fields — has been proposed in Phys. Rev. B 79, 081406R (2009) for graphene where a massless Dirac dispersion is realized. The photovoltaic Berry curvature (a nonequilibrium extension of the standard Berry curvature) is the key quantity to understand this effect, which appe...

Mechanical topological semimetals with massless quasiparticles and a finite Berry curvature

A topological quantum phase requires a finite momentum-space Berry curvature which, conventionally, can arise through breaking the inversion or the time-reversal symmetry so as to generate nontrivial, topologically invariant quantities associated with the underlying energy band structure (e.g., a finite Chern number). For conventional graphene or graphenelike two-dimensional (2D) systems with g...
